Six! 4.11.5

Reversed Tetris?

The tower stands tall, piercing the clouds with its rectangular edges. It seems strong, however you can't help but notice the bricks shifting slightly at irregular intervals. What might be going on? Little do you know that there's a real struggle going on at the top. A hexagonal artifact stands to fall for a disembodied spirit shifts the tower from reality brick by brick, trying to lower the artifact down to safety. At least that's what I came up with while trying to attach a theme to Six!, a game that has the most abstract title imaginable.

Six!

In Six! you have the capacity of popping out tiles of a tower by simply touching them. Each tile scores you 5 points, so naturally, you'll want to tap as much as possible. However, the blue hexagon that sits precariously on top of your yet-to-be-scored Tetris like structure is a stern warning. If it falls off you end the game. You don't lose, as there's nothing to lose but mere progress. Progressing through a level not only scores you points bu also allows you to collect stars. Stars are an overall score that accumulates over multiple games. You receive a star when reaching regular depth levels. Once you have at least 30 of them, you can spend them to give you a head start on your next game. Pretty handy, especially if you're low on patience.

Six!

However, patience is somewhat required to advance in 'Six!'You will not be able to keep the hexagon centered for long, and soon enough you'll find it dangerously close to one edge (it's all your fault of course). The only way to avoid a tragic end is to pop out the right tiles when they come about and more importantly at the right time. Popping tiles in succession is a valid tactic and can mean the difference between a successful recovery and total failure. Oh yeah, this reminds me of this interesting feature. Whenever the hex drops, you get a few seconds left to pop out any remaining tiles and score them. Which is sort of useful if you are close to beating the current record, otherwise it's just good for making you tap a button unknowingly once it switches back to the main menu.

I mentioned Tetris before and for good reason. In Six! you are basically deconstructing a complete Tetris tower. Of course, it does not have the standard width of the original, but it looks pretty much the same. Unlike Tetris however, Six! has a powerful physics component which is guaranteed to offer its own class of challenges and excitement. The pleasing graphics and simple concept is perfect for a casual keeper on your tablet or phone.
